Daydream Animated Short

"A boy skips in and out of the reality of punishment."

The short is an abstract story about escapism in the midst of punishment, set in 1960s Singapore when caning was a widespread acceptable practice (I think it still is in some schools).

The project covered the full animation pipeline, from storyboarding and concept art, to modeling and rigging, to eventually lighting and rendering, with post-production in compositing and sound design.
I independently studied and implemented cell-shaded rendering, volumetric lighting, and particle cloud effects.

The film was Awarded Best Visual Development in the 2017 DigiPen Animation Awards

Out of this project, I discovered my interest in cell-shaded 3D, like that fusion 2D3D look, and it's a style I'll definitely be working on again in the future!
